The separation between the public space and private space makes for an excellent entertaining home
A geothermal system has integrated the extended pond that offers irrigation along with a sustainable heat source for the home. A separate workshop is wired with power & steel roofing. A greenhouse with passive solar water heat & chicken pen for your eggs.Legacy gardens and fruit & nut trees.
Salt Spring Island Gardens:
5 acres fully deer fenced
There is gravity-fed irrigation from it to all the berries and some of the trees. Berries are: salmon, black and red currant, tay berry, logan berry, golden and red raspberry, wild raspberry, mulberry, strawberry, wild black berry, domestic blackberry, gogi berry, autumn olive, blueberry, honey berry, elder berry and thimble berry. There are Japanese plum, peach, fig (both of these small), 1 almond and 3 hazelnut trees (these 4 large and well established) There are also copious amounts of grapes this year and hops that grow 30 feet high up some cedars.
Additionally a huge array of medicinal and culinary herbs. There is also a black olive and pomegranate trees in the greenhouse (never produced, but flowers, so might one day)
The forest is planted with future generations in mind with giant sequoia, California redwoods, walnut and ginkgo (these about 10 years old) in addition to the giant firs and cedars you see everywhere.
The irrigation system is fully functional from the pond so someone seriously interested in growing food and not relying on “city” water could do so.
Barn- There is a new roof and it truly is a beautiful barn for the horse lover or any other livestock.
Hot water is off grid solar in the summer and fall and part of the other time of year from panels on the roof of main home.
Suite for you to get away ;-)
The walk out suite is completely private for your extended stay guests as well as family. You will adore the wide plank flooring and fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. The space has its own wood stove for the cooler season and makes for a lovely place to relax and enjoy the views of the gardens from the wrap around fir encased windows
