The New Curriculum

The new curriculum will be implemented over the next 3 years. Teachers may explore and use the new K-9 curriculum this year with full implementation for the 2016-17 school year. By the 2017-18 school year, the new K-12 curriculum will be used in schools across the province.

Our world is changing and the revisions to the BC curriculum aims to help students learn the skills and competencies they will need to be successful. To better engage students and make learning meaningful and relevant, the new curriculum provides a framework that supports teachers and students with opportunities to personalize learning in classrooms. The new curriculum focuses on a student-centered approach through providing students with quality teaching, flexibility and choice, and high standards.

The ministry of education has instructed school districts across the province to have full implementation of the new curriculum in place by the end of 2017.
