More about North Saanich Homes for Sale

The District of North Saanich is located at the north end of the Saanich Peninsula approximately 25 kilometres north of Victoria, British Columbia on southern Vancouver Island. The District is surrounded on three sides by 40 kilometres of ocean shoreline, is home to the Victoria International Airport, and the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal.
The District consists of rural residential areas and a large agricultural base. This area historically emerged from several coastal focal points inward to the interior of the Peninsula. The community neighbourhoods which include Ardmore, Deep Cove, Curteis Point, Cloake Hill/Green Park, Dean Park and the South East Quadrant are on the periphery of a rich agricultural interior which is protected by the Provincial Agricultural Land Reserve.
A significant portion of the land is agricultural with many varied and active farms and other rural attractions. Not only do these offer a supply of locally produced food, but they provide a charming contrast to the residential areas. Agriculture is very important to the municipality, as evidenced in the number of farms, and road side produce and flower stands.
Does it sound idyllic? Many think so and residential options in North Saanich tend to be more limited than in other areas. The focus is on maintaining the character of the land, with larger lots common and restricted development more the norm here.

Living in North Saanich, Victoria

Life on the island doesn’t get much better than it is in North Saanich. Just minutes from the lively activity of Victoria to the south, the predominately rural lifestyle at the top end of this peninsula are a slower-paced, comfortable alternative to city culture, yet with all its advantages.
North Saanich, one of the most beautiful and diverse municipalities in the region, will usually be the first community visitors will experience when visiting.
Energetic volunteers host a well established Saturday morning farm market at St. John’s United Church on West Saanich Road. Many farms offer sales of produce, breads, preservatives, and meats at this market and you may even find local jewelry and art.
The walking trails are extensive and appealing, covering most areas in the municipality and ranging from those easily walkable to more challenging areas in Horth Hill Park and Dean Park, well worth the effort for the views. Other parks offer a variety of attractions, including magnificent views of our shores, and our native plants and trees.
In addition to these aspects, a 40km shoreline extends around the municipality, attracting many boaters and fishing enthusiasts, and serviced by local marinas. The Panorama Recreation Centre offers swimming, tennis, skating and other fitness facilities. There is also a local golf course, Ardmore Golf Course.
The opportunity to indulge in such a variety of leisure activities is enhanced in North Saanich by the unspoiled beauty of our rural and marine areas.
Living here is defined by a different aesthetic, however. Residents feel their connection to the earth, the pull of the water and the serenity of the blue-sky canopy above. Sailors find peace here, and the region’s agricultural past is an honored and well-preserved tradition. There is abundant room to catch the wind in the sails on a weekend, and there is time and space to cultivate a garden, plant a tree, and harvest vegetables.
Modern marinas offer moorage and repair services for boaters; and the masts sway gently in the harbor. An active yachting program is teaching a whole new generation of youngsters to love and respect the sea. Residents of North Saanich come home to relax and, although there is a sense of modernity, it is still subdued and quiet.
